I came in not knowing which department was supposed to handle my father's IC renewal after his address change. Aisyah sat with me for about 20 minutes, explained the exact process, told me what documents to bring, and even wrote down the counter number at the JPN branch nearby. That alone saved me a wasted trip. Worth it for one visit, let alone four.

My mother-in-law received a notice from LHDN and nobody in the family could make sense of it. We used one of the drop-in sessions just to have someone read it with us and explain what was actually being asked. Turns out it was a routine filing reminder, not an audit. The follow-up message two days later confirmed the reference number to quote if we replied. Really practical service.

We did the four-week household workshop as a family — me, my husband, and both my in-laws. It's the first time we've all sat down together and actually talked through who handles what. The shared document index was a revelation — we discovered three insurance policies nobody knew the other person was also tracking. Kelvin was patient with everyone, including my father-in-law who is not comfortable with apps.

I was a bit sceptical at first — wasn't sure what a citizen assistance centre could actually help with that I couldn't just Google. But I had a question about road tax renewal for a vehicle registered to my late father, and online information was all over the place. Twenty minutes at Meranti Porch and I had a clear checklist of what to bring and in what order to approach it. Saved me a lot of back-and-forth.

The session was useful and the team were easy to talk to. My only note is that I had to wait about 15 minutes even though I came during a quieter period — so it's worth messaging ahead if you have a tight schedule. That said, the follow-up message they sent two days later answered the one thing we hadn't quite resolved during the visit, which was a nice touch.

Our residents' association used the Community Notice Board Toolkit programme. Before Meranti Porch, our notice board was a mess — old flyers mixed with current ones, no system, no one person responsible. Priya came to us, observed how we actually worked, and built the structure around that instead of imposing something generic. Eight weeks later we have a submission process, content categories, and two committee members who share the editorial role. It's still running the way they set it up.

Success Stories

Three Situations, Three Outcomes

Short accounts of how the porch's services played out in real situations.

Challenge

Family of Four, Four Separate Admin Tracks

A couple in their 50s was managing renewals, insurance, and household documents entirely informally — each person knew some things, nobody knew everything. Their adult children overseas had no idea where anything was.

Solution

The family enrolled in the Multi-Generation Household Planning series. Over four Saturdays, they built a shared document index, set up a shared calendar with recurring renewal reminders, agreed on who would handle which tasks, and created an "in case I'm away" folder accessible to the adult children via a shared drive.

Result

Completed in four weeks. All four family members now use the shared calendar. Two overdue renewals were identified and resolved during the workshop series. The overseas children have access to the index and the emergency folder without any back-and-forth.

"We kept saying we'd sort this out properly someday. Kelvin gave us the structure to actually do it in a month."

Challenge

Residents' Association With No Posting System

A 300-unit condominium in Damansara had a WhatsApp group and a pinboard, both managed informally by the secretary. Outdated notices stayed up for months. Residents complained about missing important updates. The secretary was burning out.

Solution

The eight-week toolkit engagement produced a tiered content category system (urgent, regular, community), a simple submission form, a monthly editorial checklist, and a two-person volunteer editorial team. Two on-site workshops walked the committee through the full system before handover.

Result

Within three weeks of going live, resident complaints about missed notices dropped noticeably. The physical pinboard is now cleared and refreshed monthly. The secretary has a co-editor and a checklist instead of an unmanageable task.

"Priya understood that we're volunteers with day jobs. She built a system that works within that reality."

Challenge

One Person, Three Unresolved Admin Questions

A retiree in her late 60s had three separate matters sitting unresolved for over a year: a vehicle ownership transfer, a question about her EPF statement, and a notice from her strata corporation she hadn't understood. She felt overwhelmed and wasn't sure where to start.

Solution

She used all four drop-in sessions on the three topics — one session per matter, and a fourth to follow up on the vehicle transfer process after her first JPJ visit. Each session produced a clear written summary and a checklist of next steps specific to her situation.

Result

All three matters were resolved within two months. The strata notice required no further action once understood. The EPF query was clarified in a single online session she completed herself. The vehicle transfer took two JPJ visits but was completed without complication.

"I'd been putting these off because I didn't know where to begin. Having somewhere to ask made the difference."
