About Us
A Place That Keeps Its Door Open
Meranti Porch exists because everyday life in Malaysia involves a lot of paperwork, a lot of counters, and not always someone nearby who can explain what's actually needed.

How the Porch Came to Be
The idea behind Meranti Porch started with a simple observation: a lot of people in the Klang Valley area know they need to sort something out — a renewal, a form, a department visit — but aren't quite sure where to begin. They don't need a lawyer or an accountant. They need someone to sit with them for half an hour and talk it through.
We opened at Dialog Tower in Mutiara Damansara because it's well-connected by MRT and sits at the heart of a densely populated part of Petaling Jaya, where multi-generational households, residents' committees, and everyday families all share the same practical questions.
The name comes from the front porch of a traditional Malay timber house — the anjung — a shaded, open space where neighbours stop by, where conversations happen without formality, and where nobody needs an appointment to be heard. That's the spirit we try to carry into everything we do.
Our Mission
Straightforward Guidance, No Strings Attached
Our work is general information and orientation — explaining procedures in plain language, helping households get organised, and giving community groups the tools to communicate clearly among their members. We don't give legal, financial, or medical advice, and we don't represent clients in any official setting.
What we do offer is time, attention, and clarity. The kind of thing a knowledgeable friend would give you over coffee — except we've built a proper, consistent service around it.
The People Here
Who You'll Meet at the Porch
Our small team covers a range of backgrounds — all chosen because they know how to explain things clearly and listen without rushing.
Nur Aisyah Binti Ramli
Centre Lead & Orientation Advisor
Aisyah spent eight years with a local government agency before joining Meranti Porch. She handles most of the drop-in sessions and knows the MyEG and JPN portals inside out.
Kelvin Wong Zhi Ming
Household Planning Facilitator
Kelvin leads the multi-generation workshop series. He has a background in adult education and a particular interest in how families share administrative responsibilities across generations.
Priya Subramaniam
Community Engagement Coordinator
Priya works primarily with residents' associations and small charities on the notice board toolkit programme. She brings experience from the NGO sector and a background in community communications.
How We Work
Standards We Hold Ourselves To
Being a small centre means every visit matters. These are the commitments we keep regardless of how busy the porch gets.
Data Handled with Care
Documents and personal information shared during visits are not copied, stored, or passed on without your knowledge. Session notes are kept only as needed for follow-up.
Clear Scope, Every Time
We are an information and orientation service, not a legal, financial, or healthcare provider. If something falls outside our scope, we say so clearly and point you in a better direction.
Punctual and Prepared
Drop-in visits begin on time. Workshop sessions follow a prepared structure and include printed materials. We don't improvise at the expense of your time.
Plain Language Always
Jargon is not helpful. We write and speak in plain English (or Bahasa Malaysia on request), with examples that make sense in a Malaysian everyday context.
Follow-Up Included
Drop-in pass visits include a message follow-up within two working days. Workshop participants have access to our group chat for the duration of their programme.
No Pressure, No Upselling
We won't push you toward a larger service package if you only need a single visit. What you book is what you get, and you can stop at any point without penalty.
Values & Expertise
What Guides the Work at Meranti Porch
Meranti Porch operates at the intersection of public administration literacy and everyday household organisation — two areas where a clear, patient explanation often makes more difference than any specialist service could. Our focus is the person in front of us: their specific situation, the documents they've brought, the question they've been putting off for months.
For residents' associations and community centres in Selangor and Petaling Jaya, we bring operational communications experience — the kind that makes a notice board readable, a submission process fair, and a volunteer role sustainable. The Community Notice Board Toolkit was developed after working with several small committees who had information to share but no consistent way to share it well.
For families, the challenge is often coordination across generations rather than any single complicated task. The Multi-Generation Household Planning series addresses this directly, giving families shared language, shared tools, and shared responsibility for the documents and renewals that underpin daily life.
We believe that access to clear information is a basic part of being a functioning member of any community. The porch is here so that gap is a little smaller for anyone who walks through our door.
